What Causes Rash Surrounding Anus?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Oct 2014
Question: Hello, I'm suffering from a rash surrounding my anus out to about two inches. It began the same time as a hemorrhoid outbreak. The rash cleared up quickly with zinc oxide but has returned after a few days while I am treating the hemorrhoids with halobetasol. The rash appeared "before" I was on any hemorrhoid treatment. My hygiene is excellent. I don't understand why the rash is so persistent. Hemorrhoids are shrinking but the area is extremely itchy. The rash is making it difficult to even walk.

Brief Answer:
Stool examinations are advised...

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

You are reporting to be treating hemorrhoids locally and are having pruritus around the anus at the same time.

When you have hemorrhoids, during the bowel movements, the anal mucosa is being damaged, causing small fissures. This might be causing pruritus.

Another cause could be intestinal worms/parasites. Get your feces examined for ova/parasites to exclude them and to culture the stool for candida.

Continue with excellent hygiene you are already following.

Hope it helped!

Brief Answer:
Can wait until Thursday...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back XXXXXXX

You can wait until Thursday, there is no need for immediate attention. If itching or other symptom becomes unbearable can go to ER.

For the moment, can wait and schedule appointment with proctologist, the specialist for anal problems. If there is no such specialist in your area, can consult with dermatologist.
