default
Posted on Mon, 28 Nov 2016
Question: I have pain on my right foot, left side only. It's dull, but I feel it every time I walk and the last couple of nights I've actually woken up because it hurts. It's been 1-2 months. Should I see a dr. or let it go?

Brief Answer:
Should see a Doctor, preferably an Orthopedic Surgeon.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Female/54 - pain on right foot - left/medial part of right foot - dull - feel every time you walk - actually woken up because of pain in the last couple of nights - this has been going for 1-2 months - wants to know whether let it go or see a Doctor...

The most probable causes are:
Osteoarthritis of the inter-metatarsal joints
Tenosynovitis.
Bony lesions

It needs a proper clinical evaluation, preferably by an Orthopedic Surgeon.
Also needed may be an X-ray/ CT scan? MRI as per the opinion. This is important for a proper management.

Till then I would advise you the following:
Take an anti-inflammatory medicine with painkiller properties like Ibuprofen if it suits you; to be taken round the clock. Hot fomentation in a water that is supersaturated with common salts, no need to change the water frequently in spite of getting murky.
Support by crepe bandage.
Take rest, no weight bearing.

I hope this answers your query and also helps you with preliminary medical assistance.

Note: For further queries, consult a joint and bone specialist, an Orthopaedic surgeon. Book a Call now.
