What Causes Pain, Redness And Irritation Of Left Eye Following Yag Laser Surgery For Floaters?

default
Posted on Sat, 20 Sep 2014
Question: Hello.

I did a yag laser surgery for left eye floaters 5 months ago.

During the surgery and a day after it , I felt some pain which I think came from the cornea.

After the surgery things calmed down and I felt nothing special.

However , in the last 2 months I have a sensation of discomfort ,like there is a foreign object that is pressing
My left eye right bottom eye lid. I also have occasions of heat feeling from the eye. The eye also looks slight more red than the other eye.
I also have occations of mild pain that seems to come from the eye and some little pressure on my left cheek.
Also wanted to add that I pressed my eye corners with my finger 2 months ago - in order to try and get rid of the floaters that bugs me out.

In summary - the left eye feels different than the right eye.

What could be the cause for this ? Does it sounds like a permanent condition ?
Thanks in advance

Brief Answer:
It does not look like permanent condition.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic.

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history. It seems from the history that you are having mild pain, redness and irritation of left eye following yag laser surgery for floaters of the eye.

These symptoms look like inflammation induced by laser and these are not permanent. These symptoms will decrease as the inflammation induced by laser decreases.

The treatment of this condition is by use of anti-inflammatory drugs. Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for examination of the eye to assess the presence of inflammation and treatment by the use of anti-inflammatory drugs or by steroids depending on the severity of inflammation.

However I would like to reassure you that this is not a permanent condition and it will be cured with appropriate treatment.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you

Thanks.

I was treated with steroid drops for 2 weeks 3 times a day and it didn't help.

The heat and pressure sensation bothers me mostly.

How come that only after couple months from treatment I started feeling this sensation and not straight after the operation ?

Brief Answer:
Antiinflammatory drugs may help in this condition.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

It is probably a chronic low grade inflammation which has become acute now. Probably the steroids have kept this inflammation under control.

I think a course of antiinflammatory drugs like ketorolac will be helpful in this condition.

Hence I advice you to consult your doctor and do discuss with him regarding this issue.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
