What Causes Pain In Upper And Middle Abdomen?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Dec 2014
Question: I am a healthy 44 year old female. Three months ago I started having stabbing pains, upper right abdomen and a sqeezing pain in middle upper abdomen. They removed my gallbladder because it had a polyp. I still two weeks after the surgery have 80% of the same pains. My bowel moments have been normal this whole time, I'm never sick, no fevers. What is wrong with me?? My ultra sound showed my organs all look healthy, and the surgeon said everything looks good inside.

Brief Answer:
Gastroscopy should be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

First of all you need to know that gallbladder polyp never gives any pain. It does not give any symptoms at all. So this was not the reason of your pain for sure.
Characteristic for gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas issues pain is it radiation to the back. Nausea is very often present.
So if your pain does not radiate to the back, gallbladder, bile ducts or pancreas issues are hardly possible.
Your pain can be caused by stomach issues including peptic ulcer or stomach inflammation. It is quite characteristic for this issue that all tests like ultrasound or blood work are negative.
To diagnose it, gastroscopy should be done.
I suggest you to consult gastrologist and consider this test.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
