What Causes Pain In The Back Of Elbow Radiating Down The Forearm?

default
Posted on Sat, 17 May 2014
Question: Good morning, my doctor is out of town this week, but concerned this am after a sleepless night. I have been applying Testim 1% for about 45 days. I have severe pain in my left elbow that extends to the forearm. I stopped using the Testim last week, but am wondering if this could cause the aches. It is deep in the arm and neither heat or cold seem to provide any relief. Should this go away? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Not due to gel used.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the back of elbow radiating down the forearm is likely to be related to ulnar nerve compression or inflammation. Most commonly it is caused by a tennis elbow or cubital tunnel syndrome. It is not related to the use of testim gel.
You can help the improvement by-
1. Give adequate rest to the arm.
2. Apply cold therapy.
3. Get some anti-inflammatory medication prescribed from your orthopedician.
4. Immobilize the arm for a short period.
5. Soft tissue therapy can be used to break down adhesions that may be restricting the nerve.
6. Neural stretching exercises are helpful under the care of a physiotherapist.
Surgery might be needed in severe cases with persistent symptoms.
I hope this answers your query.
