What Causes Pain In Knee?
Meniscal tear
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns
You are concerned about having pain in the knee every 3-6 months that lasts fro 3 days then goes away.
Does your knee grind or pop?
Is there swelling or redness to the knee?
Does medication help stop the pain?
Did you have an injury to that knee?
From your description it sound like you have a tear of the meniscus cartilage. The cartilage has small tear and when you get in certain knee positions it may cause pain. After a few days the pain resolves because there is no longer pressure on the cartilage
If this continued then you should see an orthopedic surgeon and have an MRI to determine what is going on inside your knee.

Thanks for returning to HCM with your answers to my questions.
From your description of hearing a loud click when going from sitting to standing makes me think that you do have a meniscus tear in your knee. The meniscus is the cartilage that cushions your joint. With a small tear you can get intermittent pain and the click when going from sitting to standing. There is really nothing you can do other than use an anti-inflammatory to help reduce your pain. You will need to see an orthopedic surgeon and have an MRI to determine how extensive the tear is. Your surgeon may then recommend surgery to trim off the torn portion of the meniscus. You don't need to wait until the pain reoccurs. You can go now and get the testing without having the pain. The tear will show up on MRI if you are in pain or not.

Post surgery back to normal
Detailed Answer:
Yes if they discover a meniscus tear they can repair this with orthroscopic surgery. The recovery is quick. You will need some physical therapy post surgery but your ability to run will return. They have good results with this type of surgery.
