What Causes Orangish And Loose Stools Every Morning While On PPI And Gaviscon?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jun 2016
Question: Hello,

I was wondering what could be the cause of orangish, very loose stool most mornings. I am on PPI's and gaviscon advance and sometimes zantac for LPR silent reflux. I am also taking a multivitamin and and a probiotic, cutting out caffeine, gluten and all grains. Is there any testing I should be doing? I have been going through a lot with this LPR and throat issues, so I'm not sure if anxiety could be at play. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Drugs side effects...

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking on HCM!
I read carefully all your concerns and I can sa y as follows:
1. If your symptoms has started after the treatment with PPI and gaviscon, your symptoms can be explained by side effects of them.
2. If your symptoms are not related with the treatment of LPR than other causes can be:
- IBS
- acute gastrointestinal infection if you have less than 3 weeks with these symptoms.
- malabsorbtion.
At your case I would recommend to do:
- stool test for malabsorbtion
- stool culture test
-colonoscopy
Hope it was helpful to you!
