What Causes Numbness And Tingling In Fingers And Toes?

default
Posted on Fri, 8 May 2015
Question: For the past couple of months I have been experiencing numbness and tingling in my outer two fingers and my toes, which also seems to be associated with a mild dizziness. These symptoms have been getting more noticeable in the past couple of days. I have seen my GP on a couple of occasions, and my blood pressure and other checks have proved to be normal. I am going on holiday tomorrow and therefore am unable to make another appointment until i return. Should i be concerned by these symptoms, or is it safe to wait until I return in 10 days before making another appointment with my GP?

Brief Answer:
You can wait for 10 days.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and agree that these are not suggestive of any serious neurological illness.

You would require evaluation to exclude disc disease in cervical (neck) and lumbar (lower back) regions, as well as peripheral neuropathy (disease of nerves of hands and feet, located in the skin). A careful neurological examination, followed by investigations such as MRI and NCS (nerve conduction studies) could confirm the diagnosis.

There is no emergency to get the above done, and it is alright to wait for 10 days until you return from vacation.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
