Question: On 14th of July, me & my gf were just playing but somehow we had rubbed each other with each other's private parts. So to reduce pregnancy chances my gf had taken an I-pill on 15th July. She is 24 years and 3 months old and not 25 years as described by the ipill manufacturer. She is facing so many problems like nausea, stomach ache, vomiting and other things. She is expecting her cycle on 25th July. Please guide me that ipill is safe for her or what other things we need to do?? I am worried about her.

Brief Answer:
Side effects can be home managed.Period would be late by 1 week

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for the query through Health care Magic. I have read it & understood your concern.
* The age bar for taking I pill is to ensure mature / responsible consumer& to prevent immature decision to consume the high dose hormones in the pill by teen ages & also free & haphazard use of the hormonal pills which can be hazardous . So few months less age does not practically make difference in it's action & effectiveness. Please don't worry... Still be careful in future to take pills only after a doctor's advise.
* Let me tell you that if the sex act was a dry one.. & there was no ejaculation in her vagina.. she has least chances for conception with the sex.
Now about the problems your friend is facing after the pill. Because of it's high hormonal content.. nausea/ vomiting & stomach pain are known side effects of the pill. .. specially when taken on an empty stomach
* She can manage this at home by-
- Avoiding spicy or hot food.Let her take bland diet with no spices Freeze cold milk taken in sips relieves pain/ nausea , food like boiled rice or bread with milk help soothing the problem.
- A single pill of Metoclopramide ( Perinorm ) taken with little water followed by ice cold milk with sugar in sips after half hour of pills .. mostly controls vomiting & nausea
Ranitidine 150 mg can be followed in case the stomach pain( because of hyper acidity produced by the pill ) persists
* In case the symptoms do not disappear after home care within 24- 36 hours Or the symptoms increase .. she should be taken to your family doctor for necessary treatment with injections.
* The menses following I pill can be in time & regular.. though some times it can be earlier or late also. You can expect her period maximally one week late than her normal cycle. BUT.. if it is late than one week.. you need to consult a gynecologist.( If she had vomited within 3 hours of pill.. it may remain ineffective).
I hope the answer was informative & useful to you. Any follow up query is welcome.
