What Causes Nausea, Belching And Black Stools?

Question: Thursday night my husband felt nauseous, belched all night. Each belch lasted about 3 seconds. Friday his stomach was tender and his gut was rumbling. Sat. and Sun he has had black stool. Do you think this could be a virus?

I read carefully your query and I understand your concern for your husband.

It is very important to know if the stools were black black like tarry or just darker than usually.
If he had black tar stools and he doesn't take any medication like Iron tablets or Peptobismol (which can cause black stools) it is very probably to be due to upper gastrointestinal bleeding.It is called melena and happens when there is a bleeding in upper GI tract like esophagus,stomach or duodenum.
In this case I would recommend to consult a physician and get examined.A stool test can be done to determine if there is blood in it.If it is positive ,an upper endoscopy will be necessary.
