Question: I'm on day 4 of a 10 day course of clindamycin due to some dental work done on monday. I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow and have been suffering from nausea and stomach pain. Is it safe to just stop taking the medicine so I'm not miserable on vacation?

Brief Answer:
No, it is not advisable to stop it!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for your query.

I am so sorry to hear about this nausea and stomach pain that you have been experiencing since starting Clindamycin. Unfortunately, it is not advisable to stop this medication without completing the entire duration.

If we must stop, then we need to propose another option. I will suggest you discuss this with your doctor. Amoxy-Clav could be a good substitute if it doesn’t cause similar irritation. If it however causes similar issues, we may consider anti nausea medications such as Benadryl to control your nausea. Pantoprazole would already address true stomach pains.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up if need be. I wish you a nice vacation.

Kind regards!
