Posted on Wed, 8 Mar 2017
Question: what causes muscle spasms at bottome of rib cage --- it kinda "pops" out and I can't move till it's relaxed - happens once in a blue moon (I am quite thin - 100 lbs, 64 years old ) --- but happened a few times in a row today and even rolled to the other side rib after first one ...... I had a very stressful episode right before it which made me very dizzy and I had to lay down (I am recovering from a slight concussion and as I went to lay down, once I tried to turn over or get up again - it was happening ---- about 3 times --- I rested and its gone and I'm calmer now .... is it cause I'm too skinny -- or is this dangerous

Brief Answer:
as explained in details.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate self-explanatory history.
Noted the history well in details at both the places.

The cause of such pains in the bottom of rib cage like pops out and could not move till it got relaxed is usually costochondritis along with inflammation of the nearby muscles.

Stress is the most important factors in causing this and you have a history of it just before the incidence. Probably not at all related to being skinny.

It is not dangerous if the EKG and X-ray chest along with clinical evaluation rules out any heart or lung related problems.

Take care to avoid the instigating or enhancing factors causing such episodes in future.

If there is no pain at the moment, no need of any medications as such.

I hope, this answers your query, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

Kind regards
