Question: classic migraine since age 11.Not so severe during my childhood but has been a regular feature since 1998. Oflate, is 1-2 times a month, Am strict with my diet and avoid food which triggers it/bright lights/lack of sleep. However since the last 4 months noticed it occurring just before/after my periods. is there anyway I can avoid this or any medication which can do away with the visual disturbances during the migraine attack.

Brief answer....treatment of migraine explained
Detailed answer...
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern
Migraine headaches occuring around periods are called as menstrual migraines and are believed to be occuring due to dip in the blood levels of female hormone estradiol.
Treatment is divided in following parts
Acute abortive therapy ..this consists of use of triptans like Sumatriptan, naratriptan, rizatriptan etc and analgesics like acetaminophen, ibuprofen etc.
Short term prophylaxis ...includes use of naproxen in dose of 500 mg twice daily 3-4 days starting before your periods to 3-4 days after periods end,use of triptans like naratriptan 1 mg twice daily for 5-7 days around periods, use of estradiol transdermal patches etc.
Longterm prophylaxis includes use oral contraceptive pills regularly and non hormonal therapies like use of beta blockers etc.
You consult your doctor and discuss with him on above mentioned lines and take prescription from him.
I hope it helps however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
