What Causes Memory Loss While On Vraylar?

default
Posted on Sat, 28 Oct 2017
Question: Hello. I am a psychiatric patient on a new drug Vraylar 3mg daily. It was working well for me except I was suffering from acute Parkinsons. My doctor of 17 years finally treated the sxs of this with Benztropine 1mg daily. I admit for a week now on some days I took 1.5mg of the Benztropine. It does not matter...I cannot stay in my mind focused in the present anymore. I have flashbacks continually, and also into the future. Even two conversations going on in my head while performing intricate tasks involving memory. Terrible short term memory loss. I must have both drugs. I can walk and do physical labor again. The pain is better. So painful Parkinsons!!! Do I need more Vraylar to compensate for the side effects of Benztropine? I cannot "ride this out"...I need to be able to drive my car!

Brief Answer:
Definitely No

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

I like to inform you that I do not think there is need to increase the dose of Cariprazine. My suggestion is based on the fact that Benztropine is an central anticholinergic medication and does not have effect on the actions of cariprazine. To be precise it only takes care of extrapyramidal symptoms (parkinsons) of Cariprazine and do not cause any other effect other than the side effects.

Failure to concentrate, loss of short term memory and continuous flashbacks are the simple side effects of Benztropine and best dealt by changing benztropine with some other medication from the same group. One such example is benzhexol among others. In case your doctor still finds with problem with other medications promethazine which is an antihistaminergic medication, can be used for management of parkinsonian symptoms.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
