Question: I noticed I have a bump (flesh colored) on my palatoglossal arch. Its been there fore 3 weeks. I have had a sore throat, mild ear ache, tonsil stones, and neck soreness for a little over a month. What can this bump be, afraid of cancer?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. The bump is likely to be inflamed accessory lymphoid tissue. This is very common and not a cause for concern. Tonsil Cancer is very rare.

2. There is congestion in the image, which indicates an active inflammation. Request your physician to prescribe a full course of antibiotics, anti-allergic , anti-inflammatory, anti-reflux medication and a medicated gargle.

3. If this bump does not resolve, a simple excision biopsy will rule out cancer.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

How long should I wait to see an ENT, if it hasn't resolved?

Is it likely that this never goes away?
Is it common to feel some soreness in that area (bump) itself?

Thank you

Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. Yes, you should see an ENT Specialist if it does not subside.

2. The lymphoid tissue may get inflamed in future again. It will exist there unless cauterized or removed.

3. It is very common to feel some soreness in the area.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
