Posted on Sat, 14 Jun 2014
Question: My 1.5 year old son has been having watery stool for past few days. We have been keeping him hydrated & and giving him zinc suspension for past couple of days. The consistency of his stool has improved (still mucusy) but he is having green colored stool once a day. He is being feed mashed fruits like apple and bananas, breads, rice and cow's/supplement milk. He is active and no exhausion.
Please let me know if we need to take any other care or medication.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Try restricting milk

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to healthcare magic.
Loose stools without blood is usually viral in nature.
It takes 5 to 7 days for complete improvement.
You are giving correct treatment for it.
Continue zinc and probiotics like bifilac along with ORS for hydration.
If he passes urine atleast 6 times a day, there is nothing to worry.
Restrict milk intake as it will not be digested easily for a few days.
You can give rice based diet with curd .

The green coloured stool will change to normal in a few days
Wishing him speedy recovery
Regards
