Brief Answer:
Antibiotics and probiotics and sedatives for bowel

Detailed Answer:
HI.

As the name suggests: ''Irritable Bowel Syndrome'' - the cause is always a factor which irritates the intestines so much that the passage of the digesting juices through the intestines is faster than the normal time. So one gets more frequent motions, as you are getting at least 8 per day.

So one of the most common causes is the some foods. As the intestines get irritated by these foods , the body wants to remove then the fastest possible way as it can.
With your own experience till now- you must have known all the foods and beverages that cause or increase your problem. You have to stop all those. It is always you who have to find, note down and say NO to such foods.

As you must have noticed : there are other factors too. One of the most important is the stress factor. Any type of stress , be it mental or physical can increase / start your problem.

I would advise in such patients:
*To undergo colonoscopy - to rule out local factors like ulcers, masses , polypi and so on so that they can be treated accordingly if present.
-You have a family history of bowel cancer too.

* At least one course of antibiotic and metronidazole for 5 days so that the attending infection can be cured and helps control loose motions in some cases.
* Adding Multivitamins helps early recovery and this is most required as the intestines do not get sufficient time to absorb the essential nutrients.
Vit A and Calcirol( Vit D) in therapeutic doses are required. Add probiotics to restore the bacterial flora, which is disturbed due to IBS and antibiotics.

* An opinion of a Gastroenterologist as a direct clinical/ physical examination too gives great clues, as also the complete history he would ask you gives many answers to the questions and guide the treatment part too.

* Remember::: stress-free life is most important factor to control IBS. You will notice that the problem recurs if you have mental stress.

* Specific medicines can be prescribed by your attending Doctor/ Gastroenterologist.
