What Causes Intermittent Sharp Pain In The Penis?

default
Posted on Wed, 16 Aug 2023
Question: Hello Doctor,

2 nights ago, I was awoken by a sudden flash of pain in my penis. The flashes of pain came and went intermittently throughout the night, but I was able to get back to sleep. The next day, I didn't really feel any pain, but my urinations seemed slightly off, in the sense that they didn't have the force I was normally used to. I didn't feel any pain last night, but my urinations are still about the same today.

My wife gets very frequent UTIs, and she said they don't match what she usually goes through (intense burning and inability to even urinate). Could this be a mild infection though? Or something else? How long with these symptoms until I should see a physician? Is there any treatment advice to try first? Thank you in advance.

Brief Answer:
Mostly due to infection of Urethra (Urethritis)

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Based on the facts that you have posted the pain in penis followed by difficulty in urination is most likely to be due to infection of the urethra (Urethritis).

Did you have unprotected sex on the said night with your wife?

Does she have active UTI at this point of time?

In view of your wife having UTI the possibility of you acquiring UTI can not be ruled out.

Get your routine urine test and urine culture has done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.

Take broad-spectrum antibiotics like Cefixime along with urinary antiseptics like Nitrofurantoin and anti-inflammatory drug like Diclofenac twice daily with urine alkaliser Citralka thrice daily. Later on, switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your Family Physician.

Ensure to drink more water to keep the urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.

Get urine test of your wife done to rule out active UTI.

Hope I have answered your query.
