default
Posted on Mon, 11 Jul 2016
Question: MD at first thought I had cholesteartoma,Several weeks ago I felt a small rupture in my left middle ear-did check the outer canal and there was no drainage.I did see ENT and CT was done. A large amount drainage passed thru eustachian, left a terrible taste in my mouth and made me quite nauseated. ENT stated CT normal, but the terrible taste and mild drainage persist.I am getting more headaches

Brief Answer:
seen in ear drum infections

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having episodes of head-ache with mild drainage of ear. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any co existing nose (allergy- sneezes with running nose) or sinus infections (post nasal drip- sinus secretions dripping back into throat )?
Is there any belching or burning sensation in chest ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

As such, nose or sinus secretions or throat may enter through Eustachian tube (tube connecting the middle ear and nose), and cause infections inter transferable (nose to middle ear, middle ear to nose) which causes change in taste and drainage of ear.

It is not necessary, cholesteatoma should cause dis-taste and draining of ears. Simple ear drum perforations will also present in same way. You are fortunate that CT temporal bone are free from cholesteatoma.

I suggest you to avoid water per ear (plug the ear during bath) and self cleaning.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions
