It seems from the history that you are having flashes of light in the peripheral vision. Flashes of light are because of tractions on the peripheral retina. They can be seen in association with problems affecting the posterior segment of the ey like posterior vitreous detachment. Most of the times flashes of light are because of posterior vitreous detachment which normally occurs after 40 years of age because of age related changes and no treatment is required. These will not cause any problem and will resolve with completion of the posterior vitreous detachment. However in less than 10% of cases posterior vitreous detachment can become complicated with formation of retinal tear which can lead to sudden onset of flashes and floaters. Retinal tears require prophylactic laser treatment to prevent complications. Hence flashes of light requires evaluation by a ophthalmologist by performing simple clinical examination called as indirect ophthalmoscopy to examine the periphery of retina. Hence to conclude I advice you in 90% of cases flashes of light represents normal event but in less than 10% of times it can be a feature of retinal tear, hence I advice you to consult your ophthalmologist for examination and treatment accordingly.
