What Causes Frequent Urination In Child?

default
Posted on Wed, 26 Aug 2015
Question: This consultation is for my daughter who is 2 year and 8 months now. Please direct this query to a pediatric. From last few weeks we are observing that she is going to washroom for urination almost 5-6 times a day and sometimes frequemcy goes upto 7-8 times. She has no comlain io any burning sensation and urine which she does is also good quantity and clear color.

Currently we are travelling and in usa, we keep home temperature to moderate 75 F.

Is there anything we can do to reduce her frequency ? Like give her specific juices like cranberry or organes? Or is this normal and we dont need to worry?

Please let me know if additional details arw required

Brief Answer:
no need to worry. get urine tested

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Based on your history and description two possibilities arise.
1. Normal. Passing urine atleast six to eight times a day is within normal limits. If your child is active and playful and had no fever no need to worry. If there is no burning sensation that points towards normalcy.
2. If there is a change in frequency recently then you need to get her urine tested for complete examination along with urine culture.
Only if reports suggest infection then she may require antibiotics.
Otherwise no treatment is required for the timebeing.
Plenty of fruits and liquids can be given safely without adding sugar.
Wishing your child good health and speedy recovery.
Regards
Dr Arun
