What Causes Food Stuck In The Throat Feeling And Pain In The Chest?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Nov 2016
Question: Hi doctor,

For past 5-6 days, i feel my food stuck in the throat while eating. It occurs at the lower middle portion of my chest. A week ago, i also suffered from stomach pain to which i was suggested by doctor that i had acidity. I also take an antacid syrup after eating. My stomach is fine now but chest pain still exists during eating. Rest of the time, am totally fine. There is also no breathing problem. Is it something i should worry about or its just because of acidity?

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Acid reflux disease is the most probable reason.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Most likely you have a symptoms of acid reflux disease. Swallowing trouble seems to be caused by some esophagus inflammation.
I suggest you to start some antiacid treatment (Omeprazole) and see if this helps. If no, than you should have a gastroscopy done.
In a meanwhile please avoid any fatty foods, spicy foods, fried foods, alcohol, coffee, orange juice or chocolate. Do not eat or drink 2 hours before sleeping and put an additional pillow under your head while sleeping.

Hope this helps.
Regards.
