What Causes Floating Sensation After Cardio Exercise?

default
Posted on Mon, 26 May 2014
Question: Hi,
I experienced a feeling of "floating" or "rocking" in May 2012 first on the 4th day of my period. The sensation continued and because of feeling more anxious about my situation, I visited multiple specialist - General, ENT, Neurology etc and all of them said that the issue was with my inner ear. But, I never had spinning sensation or vertigo in its truest sense. I am not sure what suddenly brought about this issue. Finally, I felt okay by the end of 2012 by having 1 month course of Stugeron + Betavert + Nootropil. In August 2013, I started to do cardio excercises and within 1 week of excercising, I experienced the floating sensation again. It is prevalent mostly when I lie down. It lasts anywhere betwee 5- 20 minutes and then goes away. I met another ENT specialist who went through my case in detail and diagnosed it as MAV (Migraine Associated Vertigo) and I had a 1 month course of Siebelium 10 mg and I was absolutely fine post that. Now, again back in 2014 May, my gynaec has advised me to loose weight and so, I have been doing some intense cardio for a week and am experiencing the same floating sensation again.

My Question is - Why does cardio or some form of excercise other than walking trigger my sensation? Should I continue to do my excercise? Please advise.

Brief Answer:
May be side effect of metformin

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,
I have gone through your query, medical history, current medication and treatment history. These all suggests that your sensation may be related to your current medication such as Metformin.

Cardiac or exercise trigger your sensation may be due to the decrease in the blood sugar level.

But for better management, to reach the near diagnosis and exclusion of the other disease you may go for
1. Blood sugar level just before the exercise and just after the exercise.
2. Audiometry- Pure Tone Audiometry, Impedance Audiometry.
3. ENG (Electronystagmography)

Thanks

Wish you good health
