What Causes Excessive Sweating With Body Chills When Suffering From Diabetes?

default
Posted on Wed, 24 Sep 2014
Question: My 66 year old husband was sweating all night; had severe chills all morning; his temp seems okay right now. He was vomiting earlier. He has a similar incident about three weeks ago. He takes tablets for diabetes and his blood pressure right now is 165/88. He also has sarcoidosis. Should I take him to the doctore right now or see how he feels in the morning? Could it be a spider bite? Sunday: his temp seems okay but he is slightly chilled. His blood pressure is 100/70. He has a very red area on this lower leg but there is no abrasion. It feels warm to the touch.

Brief Answer:
Please, talk him to the doctor!

Detailed Answer:

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about what your husband has been experiencing. The gross changes in his blood pressure could explain some of these symptoms but not all. What is of major concern now is a possible infection.

Any suspicion of an infection in a diabetic patient must be addressed immediately and very aggressively. From the symptoms you have described, he likely has a soft tissue infection in he form of cellulitis. If this is not addressed timely and aggressively, it would go on to produce terrible complications. An infection would cause the blood sugars to be poorly controlled and the high blood sugar levels would in itself also prevent healing. This would lead to a vicious cycle of infection worsening diabetes and diabetes worsening the infection.

In all, I will like to have an image of this swollen and red area. This is likely caused by an infection. Seeking medical attention should be prompt for best results and prevention of complications.

II hope this helps. I wish your husband well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
