What Causes Excessive Sleep When Diagnosed With COPD?

default
Posted on Wed, 12 Oct 2016
Question: My husband has COPD and is on oxygen 24/7. For the past couple of weeks, he is sleeping a lot. He usually sleeps all night (6-7 hrs), and then takes a 3-4 hour nap during the day. Is this because of his COPD, or should I be concerned?

Brief Answer:
Could be connected

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Please check his Oxygen saturation whenever he feels sleepy. If low (less than 80%), then excess sleep could be due to the same and needs to be addressed by his treating doctor.

If the saturation is fine, it could be due to one of his medications.

I would like to know what medications he is on. So that I can point at the culprit.
