Try the following behavioral changes....

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

In elderly people day time sleepiness may be a part of normal aging and also can happen from chronic medical condition or as a side effect of medications.

In normal aging sleep efficiency is reduced so elderly spend more time in bed but sleep quality becomes deteriorated. Sleep becomes lighter and interrupted. These changes in sleep in elderly may lead daytime sleepiness.
Day time sleepiness may also be a symptom of chronic medical conditions such as: sleep disorders, depression, thyroid problems, electrolyte imbalance, respiratory, cardiovascular or nerve system disorders or a side effect of certain medications.
Please, try the following behavioral changes to in order to overcome daytime sleepiness:
Try to be more active during a daytime, exercise regularly. Spend some time outside in a fresh air before going to bed.
Make a habit to go to bed at a fixed time. If you cannot fall asleep do not stay on your bed, leave your bedroom. Come back later to sleep again.
Avoid caffeine beverages or caffeinated foods after your lunch.
Try to restrict your day-time naps.

If these behavioral changes do not help or you experience weakness, fatigue or depression you may need further medical investigation.
