What Causes Breathing Difficulty, Chest Tightness And Cough Along With Constant Throat Mucus?

Posted on Fri, 22 Sep 2017
Question: I've had trouble getting a satisfying deep breath, tightness in chest and coughing bit of phlegm in the morning and constant throat clearing as if mucus stuck in throatThis has been going on for over a month now. I was checked by a doctor two weeks ago, chest totally clear, blood pressure, pulse, oxygen levels all normal. I had costochondritis a few years ago. Could it be this again? I'm going crazy with this.

Brief Answer:
allergies and stomach reflux present probably

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HealthcareMagic,

I can understand your concern,

In my opinion, and as per the history you provide, if it is again costochondritis the first symptom of yours would be the pain during the breathing cycle more than breathlessness.

It might an allergic situation.

I would recommend you to exclude the allergic factors by doing as follows :

-Prick tests
-Total IgE level assay
-Pneumoalergens
-Spirometry test

If they come positive than nebulizer with steroids (like Fluticasone twice for up to one week) help in these conditions

If negative than an acidic reflux from the stomach might be present too and using antacid drugs (like Omeprazole ) might help your situation.

Please discuss with your doctor for the above or you can attach the results here and I will be glad to help you again

Take care and feel free to ask me again

Regards

Dr.Jolanda
