What Causes Blood In Urine After Smoking Crystal Methamphetamine?

Question: 20year old male, 65kg, only recently smoked ice(crystal meth) and have experienced what I believe is bloody urine, how worried should I be ? and is ice a common cause for this symptom?

I appreciate your concern

Methamphetamine is a CNS stimulant. It does not cause blood in urine. It is related to rhabdomyolysis in which the urine color can become dark. Blood in urine (hematuria) needs further evaluation before any sort of treatment plan is initiated. The most common cause of blood in urine is a urinary tract infection. Stones and malignancies can also present as such. A urine routine examination should be advised , if there is ample evidence of an infection then antibiotics can be prescribed empirically and later tailored as per the results of the culture sensitivity testing. Most likely the blood in urine will subside if infection is the cause. If it persists then further workup including CBC, ultrasound abdomen pelvis, CT KUB, Renal function tests and cystoscopy can be advised to look for other causes , in consult with your doctor.
