Question: Hi. I had my first colonscopy on Wednesday. Came home from work yesterday feeling extremely bloated and chilled. Threw up all food and have had watery bowel movements and not been able to keep anything in me since. What should I do?

Brief Answer:
Short lasting symptoms.Donot require treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to address your query.

I have thoroughly read your query and deeply understand your concern.
Bloating, nausea and altered bowel movements are seen post colonoscopy and continue after the procedure.Symptoms seldom last for few days and donot require any treatment since they are often self limiting and subside by themselves.

I were to suggest to have cold fluids(milk or any others of your choice).Choice food that can be digested easily(avoid meat, fish, oily/fatty food).

Eat less at a time and eat more often so that the stomach does not feel full.

Stay hydrated by drinking lot of oral fluids.Especially if you have watery fluids I would recommend Oral rehydration solution(which make up for the electrolyte loss).

Monitor closely if they are coming down.In case they are not subsiding or exacerbation I would suggest a medical examination and further evaluation.

Hope these few suggestions will help you.Get well soon.Nothing to worry.

It has been 3 days since and these symptoms started after having a regular bmp. Am having explosive diarrhea and cannot keep anything in my system.

Brief Answer:
Rule out infection.Exclude severe dehydation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi madam. Thanks for writing me back.

I would suggest to take oral rehydration solution(ORS) depending on the stool output. It is advisable to take adequate(equal) amount of ORS to avoid dehydration. If you are tired and not able to carry out your routine activities suspect severe dehydration and you need to day care admission to the hospital for administration of intravenous fluids(IV fluids).

In case your stool is foul smelling, I would do a stool examination and start on empirical antibiotic therapy(Tab.Norfloxacin 400 mg twice daily for 5 days).

Hope this answers your query.
