What Causes Anal Itching In A 5 Year Old Child?

Question: Hi

My 5years old daughter is complaining of itching anus from last couple of days. She is feeling irritated because of the continuous itching feeling around the anus area and keep scratching. Please advise for resolutions.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. It is possible that your daughter has worm infestation. In such a case, taking albendazole 400 mg or 10 ml once at night with another dose to be taken after 14 days, should help in resolving the problem. I assume that there is no local excoriation or redness which could also be contributory. In case of the latter, emollients and moisturizers should be applied and the area should be kept dry.
