What Causes Acidity And Heart Burn?

default
Posted on Fri, 14 Nov 2014
Question: Hello Doctor,

My husband is 34 year old working professional. He has hectic schedules and most of the time he sits and works on the laptop. Still he walks a lot to take care of his health and his diet is also good and healthy. However at times he gets a serious acidity attach and heart burn. It might be because of something he ate at office or so. Please advise and prescribe any medications. Also let us know how can he avoid such acidity attacks by any changes in his food or diet. Please advise us.

Brief Answer:
Pantoprazole and dietary changes

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your description of you husbands symptoms. I seems that your husband has GERD ( Reflus of acid from the stomach in the food pipe).
I would advise you an acid suppressant medication like pantoprazole for a period of 8 weeks. Please consult your doctor for a prescription.
He needs to follow the following
Avoid
1. Deep fried foods
2. Carbonated drinks
3. Alcohol
4. Tobacco in any form
5. Chocolate and mint flavoured foods
6. Red meat
He would benefit from regular exercise ( 30 - 40 min brisk walk)
He should avoid lying down for 2-3 hours after meals
Elevating the head end of the bed might help
Hope this helps
