What Causes A Red Swollen Bump On The Scrotum?

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Jan 2017
Question: Hi, a couple days ago I experienced zero issues in my scrotum area. I trimmed for the first time in many months. I noticed a raised bump that was skin colored with a hair sticking out. I assumed it was an ingrown hair. I tweezed it out. After that the follicle could be seen along with the bump. I squeezed it and a bit of pus came out followed by bleeding. 2 days later the skin is now red, the follicle is hard to see, and its tender to the touch. Im very scared that it was hpv rather than a ingrown hair or pimple. Can someone advise me as to what im experiencing?

Brief Answer:
Use a topical antibacterial ointment

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I am dr.kakkar (dermatologist and venereologist). I have gone through your query and I have reviewed the Images.

No, it does not seem to be a wart/ hpv infection.

I think it was an ingrown hair or foliculitis. Squeezing and manipulating has made it into an open sore area.

You may use a topical antibacterila ointment e.g 2% mupirocin ointment Or 2% fusidic acid ointment, twice daily for a few days.

Regards

Why is it not a wart in your opinion? I know its not herpes because I was just tested for that and have no recent encounters this year. When will the redness subside?

Brief Answer:
Not genital wart

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

A genital wart is usually a rough surfaced or a cauliflower like growth/ bump and is asymptomatic. There is no pus in a wart. This image does not look like a genital wart.
