What Causes A Rash, Stomach And Intestinal Issues After A Tick Bite?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Jun 2016
Question: I had a tick bite about 2 weeks ago. I think it attached on Thursady night but didn't notice it till Friday. I went to an Urgency care on Sunday and the doctor seemed concerned . The bite did have a rash around it but did n't extend out past a couple of inches. The doctor gave me doxycycline 100 twice a day for two weeks. The rash darkened but did not look like a target. I took the antibiotic for a week and then I started having stomach and intestinal problems. I then tried to take one a day for three days but it is really affecting my intestines with feeling cramping and mucus. I called and the urgency care won't give me something different. And I can't get into my regular doctor for another week. Should I still try to take at least 1 a day until I can see my doctor?

Brief Answer:
Possible Lyme disease, treatment to be taken for 10-21 days.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your health query.

I read your concern carefully and I understand it.
I suppose your doctor has thought of Lyme disease when he have seen the tick, thats why he gave you that treatment for 14 days. It is actually recommended for 10-21 days, so you should be ok if you have take in for 10 days.
I would say if you can take it for 4 other days would be good, if not then it is ok to stop.
Consider though seeing your doctor in the appointment you have with him, because he might have another thing in mind, other then Lyme disease which is most possible.

Hope this is helpful.
