What Causes A Bruise Below The Eye?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Jun 2015
Question: Hi,
Overnight a couple of days ago a dark bruise occurred under my right eye, something like an enormous black eye. I am not sure what I should do about it and cannot make an appointment with my GP at least until Monday. Will this gradually diminish? I am a 91 year old service pensioner.

Brief Answer:
Yes, it will gradually diminish.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. If the bruise below the eye is limited and is not spreading, not to worry.
2. Look for any bruises anywhere in the body, if none are seen, its good. If any bruise is present, then, it requires hemostasis evaluation.
3. This is probably due to mild injury around the eye. Due to reduced skin elasticity due to old age, bruising will appear heavy.
4. It will slowly reduce and disappear. It will take up to two weeks.

Hope it helps.
