Brief Answer:
Annual tests should include: CBC, serum biochemistry and lipid profile...

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

Annual medical check-up and blood tests for elderly woman mostly depend on one’s current health condition, medical history, previous laboratory test results, screening results and risk factors.
In general, every elderly woman every year should get blood pressure measurements, bone density scanning, examination of the skin, oral cavity and vision/hearing tests.
Blood tests should include complete blood count, serum biochemistry profile, serum lipid profile, glucose and thyroid hormone tests. But additional tests might be ordered or certain above mentioned tests may not be necessary according your current health condition and previous test results.
Also elderly people should get yearly flu shots, and if have not been vaccinated pneumococcal, shingles vaccines should be considered.

I hope I have answered your question. Please, feel free to ask me if there is anything else you need to know. I will be happy to help you further.
Thank you

My mother's current medications are 5mg of prednisone daily and Tyenol for arthritis. She had a small bowel obstruction surgery in July of 2017. Everything went smooth. However, noticeable is her tummy bloating more so than before the surgery. There is no pain or discomfort but much more noticeable tummy size. Bowel movements are regular and without difficulty. Her weight is remaining consistent and yet she looks heavier with the bloat. She does not have a family doctor and will be going into the clinic soon to have tests run for blood etc. I am thinking the clinic could make an appointment for the surgeon to have a look. Any thoughts on the cause of the bloating? Her diet has not changed.

Mom is very active and puts in a full day in her kitchen. she is one of those people who just can't sit and watch tv for hours. Really amazing lady and wants to keep going to 100 years old.

Should these adhesions be the case, could you briefly outline what options would be available in medications or procedures.

Brief Answer:
Abdominal adhesion treated surgically...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for the follow-up.
If abdominal adhesions are confirmed, the treatment depends on adhesion location, its extent and gastrointestinal organ dysfunctions. Unfortunately, medications are not very helpful to treat abdominal adhesions. Generally its treated with surgery. If it is causing mild symptoms dietary changes such decreasing fiber in the diet or liquid diet might help.

Hope this information is helpful. Should you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks again.
