Question: HI I would like to wean myself off of two medications I have been taking for about 18 months. They are Wellbutrin and Adderall. How do I go about that?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

You are taking Wellbutrin (Bupropion) and Adderall (Amphetamine) since last 18 months. Though you have not mentioned the doses you are taking but since you are taking the drugs since long time so doses should not be stopped abruptly as this may result in withdrawal effects.

Doses of both drugs should be reduced by about 20-25% every two weeks and then stopped completely at about 6-8 weeks. This is the method I usually advise to my patients in my clinical. Tapering the doses in this manner will prevent any withdrawal symptoms. Slight restlessness can occur but that can be controlled by low dose of benzodiazepines on SOS basis. Taper the doses as per your prescription only.
