Question: I am a 72yr old copd patient for last 10 years.I am taking sequadra roto cap and flohale repsule twice a day. Now I had myestin gravis symptums and the anti acetyl choline recptor antibodies is 22.4 positive.Now i am prescribed with gravitor 60mg(3times),omnacortil 10mg(2 times) and velloz 20.All my copd madecines are to be continued.what will be side effects of omnacortil 10.will i comeout of omnacortil in due course.My BP is normal(15/70).SUGAR is normal(81 fasting).No HEART problems.SERUM CREATINE IS 0.8 mg/dl.serum usrea is 27 mg/dl.serum choleltrol is 136 mg/dl.HDL CHOLESTROL IS 28 MG/DL.

I can understand your regarding the safety of Omnacortil.
Also noted the results of the lab tests mentioned which appear to be within the normal range.

Omnacortil (Prednisone) is a steroid usually prescribed to suppress the immune response (Anti acetylcholine receptor antibodies) as a short term therapy. Once the improvement occurs Omnacortil is gradually reduced and stopped in due course of time.
The maintenance treatment in the form of Gravitor (Pyridostigmine) alone is continued for the symptoms like weakness in myasthenia gravis.

The main side effects of Omnacortil include weight gain, stomach ulcer, infection, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, osteoporosis (thinning of the bones), cataract & hormonal imbalance.

The mucus i am getting is thick and yellow in color very frequently.when i take antibiotic AMX 500,it is coming colorless.When i stop amx500 again next morning it is coming green or yellow.how often i can take antibiotic.i am taking sequedra one rotocap.flowhale respicap twice by nebuliser for copd.i am also taking gravitor 60 (3 per day)and omnicartil 10(2 per day) for mysthania gravis from last 15 days. the review for mg is on 7th nov.any dose is to be changed.what should i do instead of taking amx 500.

Thanks for your reply & providing more information.

Productive cough with thick yellow or green sputum is suggestive of respiratory tract infection. You need to take a course of appropriate antibiotic like Clarithromycin 500 mg twice daily for at least 7 days.
A mucolytic like syrup containing Ambroxol will be effective in relief from the productive cough.
Besides, Steroids like Omnacortil is known to suppress the immunity and that seems to be the cause of infection, so the dose of Omnacortil needs to re adjusted by your treating doctor.
