What Are The Chances Of Having Relapsing-remitting MS Symptoms In Future?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Jul 2015
Question: Hi,
I was diagnosed with MS in 2008 by MRI with sensory symptoms only. I do not take any MS drugs but follow the Swank Diet and take supplements including essential fatty acids and high-dose vitamin D (10,000 IU per day) and exercise daily. I have not had a flare-up since my diagnosis and my residual symptoms from the original diagnosis have slowly and steadily disappeared. Is it likely that I have a positive prognosis? I am under the care of a neurologist and G.P. but they have little to say about what to expect in the future. I currently work full time and have a normal life.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanka for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

Although,it has been a long time since your event and chances of relapse decreases with time but still,CIS(Clinially isolated syndrome) is known to have a high conversion rate to CDMS(Clinically definite MS).So,we have to keep observing for future course and it is difficult to say with certainty that there will be no relapse in future.

Presently, I would like to know what were your symptoms in previous event and what were the MRI findings? If MRI report is available, please upload it.
Was vision involved in the past episode?
I am asking for these details because some of the symptoms and MRI findings are better predictors of future relapse.

If you want to ask a further query,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

Regards
Dr.Ajay Panwar,
MD,DM(Neurology)
