Question: Hi, i was diagonised with hydatid cyst on the presacral region. cyst was removed and doctor prescribed zentel tablets. after 2 weeks SGpT was 78. so doctor gave LIV-52 syrup.1 month after oeration, sgpt count is 48 but the liver and spleen are showing enlarged in ct scan. LIV 52 has been stopped and doctor has prescribed ursetor plus. please advise if the medicine prescription looks fine. Also there was haemorrgaic cyst diaginised in the area the surgery was done. final report now says aspiration of pelvic collection done and we are awaiting results. could you please share your thoughts on this. Is there any possibility that haemorrage can happen again ?

Brief Answer:
The prescription is fine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Your medical prescription is fine.
As per your description, it looks like blood has been collected at the Presacral area after operation. Presacral region is vascular and chances of bleeding is more in that area.
In my view, vessel might got traumatised and led to blood collection. Aspiration is the procedure of choice.
But,you should go for regular checkups . Collection of blood once again can occur. It can't be ruled out.If collection is noted after repeated aspirations, the vessel has to be ligated.
Nothing to worry. It can be controlled.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.

Thank you Doctor, if we have to go for vessel ligation, how many days post operation should it be done? the previous surgery was a major one and going for another operation immediately at the same area, wouldn't it be a risk to life?
Thank you

Also, from what i read about hydatid cycsts, it is due to the tapeworms transferred from animals. are there any tests available to check if the these worms are still present in human body? how can i know if the medication(zentel tablet) has worked and the cysts will not reoccur?

Brief Answer:
Vessel ligation can be done anytime .

Detailed Answer:
Hi
If bleeding vessel is suspected, it can be ligated any day after surgery. If the process is delayed, blood loss will be more. There will be no risk eventhough it is operated in the same area.
There are no tests to diagnose the worms inside the body even after surgery.I am sorry to say that it is not possible to know the efficacy of Zentel and prevention of recurrence. As per our literature, Albendazole is given post operatively. Regular Ultrasound abdomen will give a clue.
Hope I answered your query.
Regards
