What Are Side Effects Of Ingesting Of Mosquito Liquid?

Posted on Mon, 30 Jun 2014
Question: HI! My son 13 months old managed to open a mosquito liquid. I saw him immediately after he opened it and his hands and part on the stomach were smelly and I could see the traces of liquid. I washed him straight away, but now I am just paranoid if he had put that stick in his mouth(the little bottle for electricity with stick so you cannot spill the content out). He was behaving normally and I didnt see any burns or redness. Now he is asleep cause it is night here, but should I wake him up and take him to ER. Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Mosquito liquid.

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for your question. Ingestion is a very common occurrence in children of this age.
Based on what you've witnessed and what you are describing, it is very unlikely that your son ingested anything toxic or anything in toxic doses. That he is behaving normally and now sleeping comfortably indicates as much. So I am not worried. There is no need to take him to the ER.
If he did swallow any, at most he might experience some mild stomach upset, but certainly nothing more than that. He is safe.
