Posted on Tue, 20 Apr 2021
Question: The last week i have started getting an uncomfortable, but not painful, feeling what appears to be a little above my heart. I would say it is located right in the center between my shoulders below my neck. It comes and goes. When I wake up I usually have that feeling. I am 55 and fit. I do apply topical minoxidil to my head to minimize hair loss

Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms are not typical of any cardiac disorders.

Anxiety seems to play an important role in all this clinical situation, as waking up imposes a high stress to the body.

Anyway, considering your age, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician and performing some tests:

- a resting ECG and cardiac enzymes
- a chest X-ray study and pulmonary function tests
- complete blood count, PCR and ESR for inflammation.

An exercise cardiac stress test would help exclude possible coronary artery disease, although your symptoms are not typical of such disorder.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr.Iliri
