Suggest Ways To Wean Off Lisinopril

Question: I am taking 20 g of lisinopril for high blood pressure. I have recently dropped 28 pounds, Right now my blood pressure is only 103/57. Can I just stop taking the medicine and call my doctor on Monday

hello,
You should gradually decrease the dose rather than suddenly stopping it. Suddenly stopping may cause rebound increase in blood pressure. I think you should move on to 10 mg lisinopril now and see the response. Most probably you will be tapered off the drug in few days. You should monitor your bp three times a day, and make a chart of it. At this moment, you can withhold the today's dose and start 10 mg from tomorrow. Most importantly we have to see the overall trend of the blood pressure and single reading is not very helpful in optimizing dose. If you are having symptoms like dizziness and fainting then you can have some ors or salt / sugar water.
