Suggest Ways To Treat Hyperkalemia In A Diabetic Along With Kidney Damage

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Jan 2015
Question: I have just discovered, through blood tests, that I have hyperkalemia. How do I reduce my potassium. I am type 2 diabetic and do have some kidney damage. I have never , to my knowledge, had this problem before. What can I eat that is not going to push these readings up higher. I am trying to lose weight and and find that whatever I have been doing is not good for me, eg. More salads, grapefruit, chlorophyll to try to detox. Where ami going wrong. This concerns me stressfully. Thank you , Lynda

Brief Answer:
Avoid potassium rich food

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I am Dr Mittal. I have read your query. I think I would be able to help you.

The potassium is very rich in fruits and salads. Usually the kidneys are the organs that maintain the electrolyte balance including the potassium. Since you are taking potassium rich food and your kidneys can't excrete it well enough, you are probably developing hyperkalemia. The best solution for your consideration would be to avoid such foods. So avoid fruits and salads.

In your case it's not about what you have to eat. It's about what you don't have to eat.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information helps you. Please feel free to contact us for more information. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.
