Suggest Ways To Recognize Developmental Delay In A Child

default
Posted on Wed, 10 Feb 2016
Question: my niece who is 2 years old does not talk, did not crawl or stands by herself. She does not make eye contact and looks at the ceiling when someone speaks to her. Her fingers are always in a fist, and when she is to bed she looks at the ceiling and smiles like she is seeing something or someone there. I am trying to find out as much information so that I can refer them to right specialist. She was taken to the doctor where she lives in Trinidad and Tobago but by the time the doctor showed up the baby had fallen asleep so another appointment was made for 6 months later. If you know a doctor that will take a look at XXXXXXX I really appreciate that

Hello

Thank You for contacting HCM. My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. I'm sorry to hear that you are going through all this. The symptoms you gave are suggestive of delayed mile stone. Most common cause of delayed milestones is trauma to brain & congenital abnormalities. Both these can be present at birth and can be difficult to observe. I would suggest you to visit hospital and get an appointment for a "Consultant Pediatrician". He is specialized in dealing with children diseases. He will examine her and will perform a neurological exam. Followed by some investigations including EEG, MRI Brain, etc. He might also include a consultation with a neurologist. I was able to search following two Pediatricians near "Trinidad":
