Suggest Treatment For Urinary Tract Infection, Chillness In Body And Dizziness

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Feb 2015
Question: Hello doctor -

My wife XXXXXXX delivered a baby on 26th dec 2014. She has developed urinary tract infection (reports attached). And after reviewing her urine culture report, her gyno recommended Ofloxacin since yesterday (part of a 5 day course). She began her first dose at 4pm yesterday. And then from 10pm yesterday onwards, she has been feeling chillness of body (head included), sense of fear and a lot of dizziness.

I am just concerned and have the following questions:

1- Based on the report, is Ofloxacin appropriate to use for her? is it possible she is having side effects based on this. if so, how to handle this.
2- What else can be done to help cure the urinary tract information quicker? not sure if there is something in the food that she is having that is aiding this infection.
3- Can there be any other reason for the above mentioned symptions? should i perform any test for the same?

please advise.

thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Can be a side effect or due to infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
1. There is no report attached with this query. Please upload the urine culture report in the box provided on the right hand side of the query box.
The symptoms your wife is having are likely to be due to side effect of the medicine or due to the infection itself. It is best to increase her fluid intake and wait for at least 48 hours for the medicine to take its effect.
2. Change in diet is not likely to affect the urinary infection. She needs to have plenty of fluids so that the kidneys wash out the infection.
3. These symptoms can be due to infection itself. Any test will not help. The symptoms should decrease in next 48 hours.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Sorry about that - the reports have now been attached. Please take a look and let me know. First thing I want to rule out is the antibiotic is not having any adverse effect and if I need to change (if at all). Secondly, she is very concerned and has a lot of fear this is something serious - so trying to find ways to cure this as soon as possible.

As always, thanks for your prompt reply.

Brief Answer:
Ofloxacin is best for her.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The urine infection is sensitive to ofloxacin. Gentamicin and amikacin are both injectables. Ofloxacin will work best for her.
Ofloxacin is associated with mild side effects like altered taste and nausea. This will subside in next few days.
It is not something serious. She will recover soon.
Hope my answer is helpful.
