Question: my wife just had an mri and there is a tumor on her ovary. our family physician said to just watch it and do cancer markers and mris every 6 months because she is older. our physician sais if she was younger and producing estrogen it would be different and the tumor should be removed. my wife wants it out. the question is, is the watchful waiting thing the right thing to do

Brief Answer:
Can be a benign tumor. You can wait and watch.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Ovarian tumor can be benign or malignant. But it can be detected easily and early with the help of regular MRI scans and tumor markers at every 6 months. In case any increase in size is noted then it can be removed surgically. This will help in avoiding the peri operative and post operative complications at her age. If her cardiac and renal status is absolutely normal and she is otherwise healthy then she can go for surgical removal.
