Suggest Treatment For Terminal Prostate Cancer

default
Posted on Fri, 19 May 2017
Question: I have terminal Prostate Cancer (gleason score 9). My doctor in XXXXXXX del Ray, California wants me to take an F-18 scan, and also Axumin. I am going to the U of XXXXXXX for the F-18 in two weeks, but they say they CAN'T do the the Axumin. I am really confused! Are these two different treatments? In reading about both, are they seperate treatments or are they part of the same treatment.
I live in XXXXXXX XXXXXXX If Axumin is a different treatment, do you know the closes place to XXXXXXX where I can get the Axumin treatment? Thank you. XXXXXXX J. Scariano

Brief Answer:
They are different scans

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

Sodium fluoride f18 PET scan is used for bone metastases in general, but not specific for prostate cancer. But fluciclovine f18 or axumin is used specifically for prostate cancer. It is better for diagnosis of prostate cancer metastasis than sodium fluoride. However, I am not sure of doing both if axumin is done. Please note that these are diagnostic scans and not treatment.

I am not sure if axumin is done in XXXXXXX According to my knowledge, it is available in XXXXXXX CA and XXXXXXX AZ, which are relatively closer to you. New centers are coming up every month.

Hope this helps.
Regards
