Question: Good Day! I am a 35 y.o. Female that fell from a horse three days ago. I landed hard on my left shoulder and head. I was wearing a helmet. No loss of consciousness but had the wind knocked out of me. I am better from the expected body soreness. There is a spot on the posterior left of my neck at the base of my skull is a very tender spot. When I press it, I instantly feel nauseous and become slightly dizzy. Is this just a soft tissue injury? Should I go have radiographs done? Should I just give my neck time and rest?

Brief Answer: Soft tissue injury likely. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for posting your query. If there is no acute pain on neck on moving the neck and there is no persistent dizziness then your symptoms are likely to be due to a soft tissue injury only. A muscle spasm in the area can also cause such kind of symptoms. It is best to take some rest and avoid using a pillow for a few days. You can also take mild pain killers like ibuprofen to reduce the swelling and inflammation in the area. In case the symptoms are persistent then do consult your orthopedician for an MRI scan and oral muscle relaxants. I hope this answers your query. In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out. Wishing you good health. Regards. Dr. Praveen Tayal.
