Posted on Tue, 30 Aug 2016
Question: My son has a positive ANA and nosebleeds, severe, frequent. He also has been diagnosed with symptoms of Aspergers.

We are waiting results on a PT and PTT, CBC, C M P, and a new test called ADVISE.

Will any of these tests reveal what is causing the problem?

Brief Answer:
Is it lupus

Detailed Answer:
good evening..

thank you for writing on health care magic

I have gone through your history. But as of now it doesn't look like lupus. I would like to ask you a few more details :

1. how frequent are the nose bleeds?

2. does he have bleeding from any other site? in the childhood or now

3. anyone in family with similar history?

4. how strong is the ana title. ..like what is the exact report

5. does he have other symptoms like oral ulcers, hair fall, rashes, or joint pains
?

As for AVISE test, it mainly detects the complement. it is used to detect lupus... But saying that if he doesn't have symptoms of lupus and even if ANA comes positive. it may not be that condition as nose bleeds are not a feature of lupus unless his platelets are very low. The other condition at this age is Osler Weber rendu disease which can cause severe nose bleeds

But I guess we need to rule out lupus and other bleeding disorder first before going to that condition

do let me know these queries

regards
Dr naval
