Suggest Treatment For Severe Body Tremors While On Advair

Posted on Tue, 18 Oct 2016
Question: I have been experiencing tremors/shudders (sometimes very strong) upon arising from bed. Also, even shorter ones before getting up. Primarily on my left side but sometimes on my right side as well. I have stopped my use as of yesterday of inhalers (Advair250/50, albuterol, Spiriva Respimat), but have done so reluctantly because I've had 3 URI's in the past year, the latest in May 2016. I have an appt with my internist next week, but I am becoming quite concerned . My husband has had Parkinson's for 21 years and it's always uppermost in my mind. Have I started off reasonably buy dropping inhalers, mostly my last new drugs in the year? I know this is probably complicated, but I'd appreciate your opinion if you have time. Thank you for your consideration. XXXXXXX Sizenbach

Brief Answer:
Careful examination would sort out the diagnosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist and would try my best to help you.

I have noted your symptoms and recent medications.

First is to do a careful neurological examination, which is most valuable in sorting out the diagnosis.

The most likely cause could be medication-related. So, you have done the right thing by stopping inhalers. If you are better in a week, then, it would confirm a medication-related cause.

Other possibility is "essential tremors", where tremors persist throughout the day, and gets exacerbated on doing a physical activity, such as writing or holding a cup of tea.

Parkinson's disease would have additional symptoms such as slowness of movements, rigidity of arms/legs, etc.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
